Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble
Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble is the latest game in the Super Monkey Ball series, which released on June 25th, 2024 exclusively for the Nintendo Switch. It was announced by Sega on February 21st, 2024 in a Nintendo Direct.
Features
Banana Rumble features an all-new Adventure Mode, which allows co-op play with up to 4 players throughout 200 stages. It also marks the debut of the Spin Dash, which players can use for extra maneuverability in both the Main Game and the Party Games. The Party Games can now be played in an online vs mode with up to 16 players. The game also features character customization, with over 300 customization items to choose from.
Story and cutscenes
The game features an adventure mode with fully animated cutscenes, which has not been seen since Super Monkey Ball 2. The basic story involves the monkeys joining the adventurer Palette in her search for the "Legendary Banana".
Abilities and gimmicks
As mentioned earlier, the player can now perform a Spin Dash: it provides a quick boost in the held direction upon release, and can be charged. Stage gimmicks include bumpers, switches, wormholes and boost panels which return from previous entries, as well the new bounce pads to substitue jumping, and pushable objects.
Assist features
As with Banana Mania, several optional features exist in the game that will assist inexperienced players. These include:
- The ability to rewind to previous parts of a stage, in order to practice tricky sections over and over again.
- A "Ghost Guide", a transparent and intangible character who will demonstrate how to complete the level
- A "Route Guide", which will show the route to the goal, reminiscent of a similar feature in Banana Mania.
- The ability to restart at checkpoints in levels, rather than having to start a level from the beginning.

Points
Points can be obtained by clearing stages in Adventure mode, completing Missions, and participating in online Battles. They can be spent in the Shop, or fed to the Mysterious Banana Tree, which grows in height and level as it gets more and more Points.

The game introduces over 300 customization options for each character and their Monkey Ball, most of which are purchasable from the Shop with points obtained by playing through the game (and a few others unlocked by meeting specific criteria).
