Sonic the Hedgehog is the mascot of SEGA and the titular character of the Sonic the Hedgehog series. In the Super Monkey Ball series, he appears in Banana Splitz, Banana Blitz HD, Banana Mania and Banana Rumble.

Appearance

Sonic is a round anthropomorphic hedgehog with blue fur that covers most of his body, and peach skin that covers his arms, muzzle, insides of his ears and front torso. He has small, triangular ears on top of his head, six long quills on the back of his head, two spines protruding from his back behind his shoulders, and a short tail. Sonic wears red boots with a white strap, cuff and gold buckle each; and a pair of white gloves with sock-like cuffs on the hands.

True to his source material, Sonic is a prime speed demon character. Having the lowest friction stat in the game, Sonic can reach and maintain incredible top speeds, but will need to work for it due to his pitiful acceleration. His Spin Dash, while slightly slower to fully charge, is a good tool for helping him build the momentum he needs to achieve his top speed potential. Sonic also has the 2nd highest restitution (bounce) stat in the game at 0.42.

Appearances

In Banana Splitz

Sonic's first appearance in the Super Monkey Ball series was in Banana Splitz, in the form of a decorative statue that could be placed in custom levels. It was part of the game's Sonic Pack paid DLC.

In Banana Blitz HD

This time as a playable character, Sonic is unlocked by completing Space Case. All bananas throughout the stages are replaced with rings from the Sonic the Hedgehog games, complete with unique sound effects. Banana bunches turn into rings that glow with a multi-colored sparkle. However, he is only playable in Main Game and unavailable in Party Games. His ball is blue compared to the usual red the monkeys use.

If the player defeats Captain Crabuchin with Sonic, the ending cutscene will not feature him and default to using AiAi as the main character instead.

In Banana Mania

In this game, he is unlocked by spending 5000 points in the Point Shop. Just like in Banana Blitz HD, all bananas in each stage turn into rings.

In Banana Rumble

Sonic returns once more, now as part of the SEGA PASS paid DLC.
