Easel (イーゼル Easel), also known as the mysterious phantom thief, is a character in the Super Monkey Ball series. He makes his debut in Super Monkey Ball Banana Rumble.

Appearance

Easel has black fur, white skin, and a long, thin tail. His attire consists of a white suit and top hat with a black trim, blue cape, and a blue mask with which he conceals his face.

Easel is a Phantom Thief, who has stolen many treasures in the past. He is also the father of Palette, and normally has a kind and caring personality. However, the OOPArts, which he has been seeking for some time, can corrupt the minds of those who seek them out, and Easel, being less strong-willed than his daughter, falls victim to this. The OOPArts' corrupting influence causes him to become obsessed with obtaining the Legendary Banana, to the point where he abandons Palette, and then later steals the OOPArts from her and carries her off against her will, separating her from the main gang, who he imprisons in a cage.

Later, the gang catch up to him, and he abandons Palette, as he no longer needs her. The gang catch up to him once again, and take back the OOPArts. Palette pleads with him to overcome their curse, and thanks to her pure heart, she is able to end his corruption, and the two are re-united for real. Easel expresses remorse for his actions, and offers for the two of them to work side-by-side as phantom thieves, but Palette explains that she wants to keep adventuring with the gang. Easel understands, and trusts Palette to be ok. He then allows the gang to take the legendary banana. Later, he writes a letter to Palette informing her about the EX Stages.

Gameplay

Easel can be unlocked in Banana Rumble by completing the Adventure mode. He can then be purchased in the shop for 3000 pts. While hovering over Easel on the character select screen, inputting the code L, L, R, L, R, R will unmask Easel and enable playing as him in this form. Easel's stats are as follows:

Easel's playstyle revolves around his unique Spin Dash attributes. At a force of 0.49, Easel has the strongest Spin Dash of any character in the cast. As a trade-off for this unparalleled burst movement ability, the Dash takes 2 seconds to fully charge. Knowing where and when to start timing a Spin Dash is very important.
