Jam Dojo
- “I'll teach you how to play.”
~Jam on the Main Game menu
The Jam Dojo is the tutorial mode in Super Monkey Ball: Step & Roll. It takes place on a special tutorial stage. In the Jam Dojo, Jam teaches the player how to play the game, either using the Wii Remote or Wii Balance Board, depending on which control method is currently in use.
Details
The Jam Dojo exists to teach the player the controls of the game. Jam will provide instructions on how to use either the Wii Remote or Wii Balance Board to control the game. When playing the Main Game for the first time, the game will automatically send the player to the Jam Dojo first, and after this, the Jam Dojo can be re-played by selecting it from the Main Game menu.
To progress through the Jam Dojo, the player must obey Jam's instructions on how to play the game. There are bananas throughout the stage, some of which behave as checkpoints and/or trigger Jam's next set of instructions. If the player falls out, Jam will tell them to tilt a little more gently and send them back to the previous checkpoint.
Content
In the Jam Dojo, Jam will teach the player to do the following things:
- Moving forward
- Turning
- Rolling up slopes
- Turning around
Tutorial stage
The tutorial stage is the stage that the Jam Dojo takes place on. The stage consists of a long, narrow path to the end, with several turns and drop offs. There are guard rails along most of the stage, but with some select areas containing gaps in the rail, so it is possible for the player to fall out. There is also a wider portion towards the end of the path. At the end of the path there is no barrier to prevent the player from falling out, and there are warning signs telling them to stop. There are also hazard signs by areas where the player can fall out, and turn signs where turning is required.
Completion messages
Upon completing the Jam Dojo, Jam will give the player a different message, accompanied by a jingle, depending on how long it took the player to complete the stage:
- Fast completion - "That was perfect! You should be out in a really hard world now."
- Normal completion - "That was some pretty slick rollin'! You can handle a tough world, I bet."
- Slow completion - "But it looks like you still need practice. Try an easier world for now."
