Marathon is a game mode in Super Monkey Ball: Step & Roll. In it, the player faces off against either 30 or 60 stages in a row.

Details

The level Super Straight being played in Marathon mode.

One of 3 courses is picked, and then the player is dropped into the first level of that course. The player has one life only, although they may use continues (which as usual, reset the player's score). This is not the case in the Full Marathon mode, where the run ends immediately if the player loses a life.

Goals are replaced with rainbow portals, and upon entering one, the player is quickly warped to the next level with no replay, no transition and no stage overview or starting animation for the next level. The player will also be started with any momentum they had when crossing into the portal in the previous level. The last goal of each world is a regular goal, however.

At the end of each world, the player is dropped into the Marathon rest stage, where they can rest for a bit, and collect some bananas. When the final level of the final world is cleared, a special layout of the credits minigame is played, with the music being the vocals version of the game's main theme.

Trivia

  • The backgrounds for all stages in Marathon mode are replaced with tiles, with a different color depending on the world.
  • The rainbow portals in this mode more closely resemble the goals in Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz in both design and function.
  • Siliconia, the 7th world in this game, is omitted from Marathon Mode because it is considered a secret world and therefore isn't part of the main course.
