The tutorial stage, also known as the how to play stage, is the tutorial stage for Super Monkey Ball that is used for the "how to play" video that plays when the player idles on the title screen.

Description

The stage is a rectangular path with two 90˚ turns, first to the right, and then to the left. In the middle section is a single banana followed by a banana bunch. In the final section, there is a gentle upward slope leading to a bumper, with the goal a short distance behind it.

Role in game

The stage exists purely for the purpose of showing the player the controls, and the basics of the game. As such, it cannot actually be played on, and has a very simple layout. The bananas are present to teach the player about collecting 100 bananas for an extra life, while the slope and the bumper likewise exist to teach the player about these types of hazards.

Accessing through debug mode

It cannot be accessed through normal means, but can be accessed via the debug menu using hacks, and is stage 150 on the debug stage select. It is also present in Super Monkey Ball 2's debug menu, but goes unused in that game in favour of another tutorial stage.

Trivia

  • When accessing the stage via the debug menu, the game spawns the player in facing the wrong way.
