Dangerous Route is a Party Game in Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz (HD). It is usually considered to be one of the hardest party games in Banana Blitz as the path can become very narrow, and the controls can make it difficult to avoid falling out.

Description

The goal of this game is to make it to the end the fastest.

In Multiplayer Mode, the first player to make it wins the game. In One-player Mode, the player wins by making it in time. Furthermore, the player may also collect bananas to increase his or her time.

Courses

There are three courses to choose from, each rising in difficulty and complexity.

Course 1

The first course is the Easy Course, which is set in Monkey Island. It has wide pathways with simple turns and completely lacks moving obstacles. One section of the course takes the shape of a 5-pointed star.

Course 2

The second course is the Normal Course, which is set in Ultra Heaven. This course has varying path widths and mainly features spinning wheels with barriers attached to them. Halfway into the course, there is a narrow shortcut with lots of banana bunches as a reward. Throughout the course, the path itself is broken up by moving platforms.

In Banana Blitz HD, completing this course with a time of 2:00.00 or higher unlocks the "Path of Most Resistance" achievement.

Course 3

The third course is the Hard Course, which is set in Space Case. This course is very long and requires precise movement, so it is important that you collect as many bananas as you can in order to traverse it without having to rush. The obstacles seen here include the spinning wheels and moving platforms seen before, as well as bumpers that almost certainly knock you off the course when running into one. At the end of the course is a long stretch of path with moving walls, similar to the ones seen on the Super Monkey Ball stage Spiky.

Changes in Banana Blitz HD

The controls are very different, likely to compensate for traditional stick/arrow inputs being used rather than the Wii's sensor bar. Rather than controlling the monkey's speed directly, the player now controls their acceleration. Tilting the control stick in a direction will cause the monkey to begin accelerating in said direction, at a rate proportional to how far the stick is tilted. Returning it to neutral will result in the monkey maintaining its current velocity, neither speeding up nor slowing down, unless it hits a bumper or wall. Because of this, the controls are overall much less precise, and it can now take much longer to bring the monkey to a stop or to change direction, making the controls arguably even more challenging than the original version.

In addition, the timer mechanics have changed significantly. There is now a far greater number of bananas on the route, but each individual banana now only grants one additional second, rather than five. This means that the player now needs to be constantly collecting bananas in order to not run out of time.

Trivia

  • Oddly, while the music was changed in Banana Blitz HD, like with all other returning party games, the new music is actually another song from the original Banana Blitz, specifically the remix of the Touch & Roll Monkey Race theme, making it one of the only 2 songs from Banana Blitz to return in Banana Blitz HD.
