Enemies are living creatures that act as hazards on certain stages. A variety of enemies appear in Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz (HD). They typically move around parts of the stage, and attempt to push the player around. They cannot be defeated, though some can be temporarily stunned. If an enemy falls out, it will respawn.

Types of enemy

There are 3 types of enemies in Banana Blitz (HD). They do not have official names. Enemies include:

Moles

A pair of mole enemies running.

Mole enemies appear in the world Detritus Desert. They have a mole-like appearance, and have amber hats, pink boots, and solid white eyes. They mostly run around the stage in a somewhat random pattern and do not appear to target the player directly. They will sometimes stand still for a moment, before continuing to run. They may run straight into cacti and other stage objects, or even run right off the edge. They can be pushed around by running into them, and jumping on their heads will flatten them for a while, stunning them in the process.

These enemies make a cameo appearance in the first world of Step & Roll.

Octopuses

An octopus enemy.

Octopus enemies appear in the world Pirates Ocean. They are green, octopus-like enemies with lenses for eyes, suction cup mouths, and adhesive bandages on their heads, indicating their weak point. Behavior-wise, they are very similar to moles, moving around seemingly at random, sharing all the pathfinding flaws of the moles, and not targeting the player. They slide along the ground at a moderate pace and do not stop unlike moles. They bob from left to right as they move. Like with moles, jumping on their heads temporarily flattens and stuns them. They may be the offspring of Tako as he summons them during his boss fight.

Jellyfish

A jellyfish enemy.

Jellyfish enemies appear in the worlds Cobalt Caverns and Sinking Swamp. They are blob-like enemies that loosely resemble flat jellyfish. They are mostly a light violet color with a more light purple color at the top. They are the least anthropomorphic, lacking eyes or mouths, or even a clear head. They move around more slowly than other enemies but take up a considerably wider area, even wider than their model would suggest, making them arguably the hardest to deal with on stages. They also cannot really be pushed around by the player. While it is possible to jump on their tops, this doesn't appear to have much of an effect on them. Some of them move around randomly, and some have more scripted movement or are programmed not to move much at all. In Banana Blitz HD, these enemies have been reduced in size, making them easier to deal with on stages, and they can no longer move at all.

Glitches

  • Walking into the mole enemies as GonGon or Baby Robo can result in the player gaining a large amount of mostly upwards momentum.[1]
  • If an enemy is nudged just before the player falls out, it is possible for them to fall out as the level resets.
